When Extra∙Ordinary Singers (formerly known as SPEDacular Voices) made their debut at the Ministry of Education’s Special Education (SPED) Conference in November 2016, they simply wow-ed! So well received were the singers that they were immediately invited to perform at the Purple Parade, an event and a movement that celebrates the abilities of persons with special needs, that very same weekend.
Since then, the group has grown from strength to strength, performing at the Esplanade and SG Enable’s 4th Enabling Employers Awards Ceremony. They have also expanded physically to include 100 students and 20 staff members from 10 SPED schools in Singapore. These schools are APSN Chaoyang School, APSN Delta Senior School, APSN Tanglin School, Canossian School, Eden School, Grace Orchard School, MINDS- Lee Kong Chian Gardens School, Pathlight School, Rainbow Centre Margret Drive School and Saint Andrew’s Autism School.
Originally set up to help students – from all ages and with a range of talents – get to know friends from other SPED schools and to provide a platform for greater synergy among the schools, the joy of making music together has definitely shone through. If you watch the choir in action, you’ll definitely feel their infectious happiness.
Get in the best mood by watching their performances at our festival!
